Gold Coast Arborist Reviews

Our Palm Services

Our team offers years of experience maintaining palm trees and enhancing gardens throughout the Gold Coast. By carefully stripping the outer layer of bark on your palms, we’ll reveal the clean, shiny surface beneath. This improves the appearance of the tree and allows it to regenerate strong bark. Plus, we clear away dead fronds and old fruit stems, leaving the area fresh, clean and clear of debris.

Our arborists also remove unhealthy, dangerous or unwanted trees of all sizes. We use specialist equipment to safely bring down palm trees while preventing damage to the surrounding environment. Our state-of-the-art stump grinder will even take care of the leftover tree stump.

Palm Tree Removal FAQ

What is the easiest way to remove a palm tree?

The best way to remove a palm tree is to hire a professional palm tree removal company that has all the tools and knowledge to perform this task safely.

Attempting to do this on your own could put you or your family at risk, plus if it falls on your home, you’ll have this damage to pay for as well.

One of our team members will assess the tree and the surrounding area to determine the best way to safely and efficiently remove it. We will then use tools such as chainsaws, shovels and ropes, to carry out the job.

After the tree has been removed, we’ll also clean up the area and fill in any holes created by the removal process.

How deep are the roots on a palm tree?

Surprisingly, palm tree roots are not that deep – they are usually no deeper than three feet. They are unique and different from other tree roots too as they grow horizontally into the ground rather than vertically.

They also don’t have a tap root, which is the large, central, dominant root of a plant or tree. The majority of trees have a tap root, so a palm tree is very different in this sense.

Can I cut off the roots of a palm tree?

Yes, you can cut off the roots of a palm tree, and this can be done without killing it off. When done correctly, it poses no threat to the strength and health of the tree.

To cut off the roots, you’ll need to start by digging around the trunk of the palm tree with a shovel. Make sure you insert the shovel at a 45-degree angle, between 18 and 20 inches from the trunk.

You should work the shovel completely around the tree, which will sever the palm tree’s roots and completely cut off and separate them. Of course, you can also contact our team for help with this.

How is a palm tree removed?

We will start by assessing the tree and removing any branches which could cause damage to the surrounding landscape when the tree falls. Once we’ve determined the best fall direction, we’ll create a notch at the base of the palm tree.

This is usually a triangular cut on the side of the tree in the direction we want it to fall in. The apex of the notch will go about one-third into the tree and be cut approximately two feet off the ground, which ensures we’re not using a chainsaw above chest height.

The next step is to cut through the backside of the palm tree until we hear internal cracking. Once these sounds get louder, we’ll back away from the tree and let the weight of the tree trunk do the rest.

What should I do with a palm tree after it's removed?

Once the palm tree is down, you need to make sure the stump is removed too. The best tool for this is a stump grinder, so we’d advise asking our team to carry out this process as well.

In terms of the tree itself, you have a couple of options here. The first is to let the tree dry out before cutting it into smaller pieces as it’ll be easier to dispose of this way.

The other option is to have your palm tree valued before it’s cut down – depending on its variety, a palm tree nursery may be interested in buying it from you.

Note: if this is the case, we’ll need to dig up the tree rather than use a chainsaw.
