stump grinding faq
How long does stump grinding take?
Stump grinding is not a generalised practice, so the grinding and removal of a single stump could take anywhere from 15 minutes to 2 hours depending on its size and location.
Big stumps might take longer – anywhere up to five hours – if they’re not easily accessible with our equipment. If you are needing an exact timeframe, it’s best to call our team for more information.
What is mulch?
If you’re considering stump grinding, be assured that our practice is much more environmentally friendly than other methods as the ground-up waste from your stump can be repurposed as mulch.
Mulch is a layer of material that consists of wood chippings which you might have seen layered above the soil in gardens. Its core purpose is to prevent unwanted weeds from germinating and enhance the visual appeal of the area.
However, it can also have a positive impact on retaining water and fertility levels for your plants.
How much does stump grinding cost?
There is a large variation in price which is dependent on how long the job takes. You could pay in the $100 dollar bracket for a small stump or up to $500 dollars for one which is larger. Call or email our team if you would like to request a quote.
Why is stump grinding the most effective way of removal?
Our service is advantageous over other methods, as it kills the tree’s surface roots to prevent any further growth, whilst keeping your space tidy.
With grinding, all of the waste from the process can be removed on-site, giving you plenty of time to enjoy the untampered scenery of your backyard.
Alternatively, digging out a stump requires landscaping, can be highly intrusive and leaves your land looking unpleasant.
What kind of pests will inhabit an unremoved tree stump?
Leaving a tree stump in your yard will inevitably attract many kinds of pests. The most common will be ants, who can quickly multiply and build a colony in close proximity to your living space.
Other wood-boring critters like termites and beetles will appear more frequently, which can also cause damage to your property.
Keeping a stump in your garden makes it easier for these insects to infiltrate your home, as they can break through tiny cracks and spaces into your walls and flooring.
Even snakes have been known to take up residence in deteriorated wood, so it is much safer to have any excess waste removed immediately.
Can I do my own stump grinding?
Though it can be done, we never recommend that you remove a stump yourself. We use highly dangerous and specialist pieces of kit which could be hazardous if not handled correctly.
Breaking even a small tooth on your grinder can be expensive, with replacements costing just under $30. Plus, with added fuel and rental costs, a DIY project can even be pricier than hiring a company.
